“No Budget, No Pay” is being republished

"No Budget, No Pay"Last October I wrote a book called A Common Sense Proposal for the Lack of US Federal Budgets, a mouthful of a title that I shortened in December to No Budget, No Pay. Unfortunately the name change ended up causing confusion for many of the stores that carry my ebook so today I republished No Budget, No Pay as a brand new ebook with an ISBN of 9781310742804. The price is still $2.99 and you can preview 25% of the ebook before you have to buy it. more ““No Budget, No Pay” is being republished”

Sony leaves the ebook business

Sony Reader Store logoToday I got online after being off for two days and as I was checking headlines at NPR I saw Book News: It’s The End Of The Story For Sony’s E-Bookstore. That got my attention since my ebooks are available in Sony’s Reader Store thanks to their distribution deal with Smashwords, the company that distributes my ebooks. I went to Smashwords’ Site Updates page and saw the news there, along with a post on their blog that details that NPR didn’t provide. more “Sony leaves the ebook business”

Hello to India! My ebooks are now available on Flipkart!

Smashwords now distributes my ebooks to India via FlipkartToday as I was checking the sales and downloads of my ebooks I remembered that I needed to see if my ebooks are available on Flipkart yet. Back in August Smashwords announced an agreement for them to distribute their authors’ ebooks on Flipkart, India’s largest online bookstore. Since Smashwords is my distributor my ebooks would be making their way to Flipkart as well. more “Hello to India! My ebooks are now available on Flipkart!”

“He’s With the Band” is no longer available in paperback

Find He's With the Band on SmashwordsDue to a recent price increase in the paperback edition of He’s With the Band, along with the fact that I am unable to make any updates in that edition of the book, I have removed it from sale from Amazon and their CreateSpace division. The minimum price Amazon allowed me to charge for the paperback was high enough at $4.59, simply because the book is so short, but when I noticed that the price had risen almost a dollar with no explanation as to why the minimum price was increased I felt I had no choice but to remove it from print completely.

I’m sorry about any inconvenience this causes.

It’s official. My federal budget ebook is now called “No Budget, No Pay.”

"No Budget, No Pay" cover imageThanks to those who let me know their opinion on the new title and cover. I’m currently uploading the new book and cover to Smashwords and Amazon and once it makes its way through their uploading process it will be available for purchase at the new price of $2.99. My apologies to those who haven’t bought it yet but if you’ve already bought it you should be able to get the updated version at no additional charge. more “It’s official. Sony finally has all three of my ebooks

One of the things I get to do when I publish a new ebook or an update to an existing ebook is to watch for when Smashwords sends the new version to their retail partners. When I see that a retailer has been sent the ebook or update I start checking each retailer’s website to find it so I can post a link on each book’s page. It can go very quickly and with some retailers it can go slowly due to how they handle each new ebook or update. more “Sony finally has all three of my ebooks”

Congrats to my ebook distributor and a free Whitey Bulger ebook from WBUR

Yesterday Mark Coker posted an announcement on the Smashwords blog that Smashwords was ranked as the #1 indie ebook producer for 2012. That is fantastic news and not just because they’re the company that distributes my ebooks to stores like iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Diesel and even to libraries. Smashwords was created back in 2008 for the specific purpose of helping independent ebook writers get their ebooks into stores where readers can find them. more “Congrats to my ebook distributor and a free Whitey Bulger ebook from WBUR”

My ebooks are now FREE to libraries

As I was taking care of some things today I noticed that Smashwords has a page set up just for authors to manage the prices they charge for their ebooks. One of the things I noticed on that page is a way to adjust the prices libraries have to pay for ebooks distributed by Smashwords. I also noticed that many authors make their ebooks free to libraries, partly to simply help get our ebooks in front of readers via their local public library. As someone who uses a public library every day I love that idea, both as an author and as a reader. more “My ebooks are now FREE to libraries”
